[edit] Head Play
I have a HeadPlay PCS..I am trying to tweak the NVIDIA Stereo driver for optimal performance.
This involves a lo of registry tweaking here:
[edit] General NVIDIA Stereo settings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\hl2
Trying this key:
StereoViewerType from 0x0000001 to 0x0000010
Based on this thread.
Wierd..its not "saving" the value I modified in the registry.
Oh well scracthing this blue line
Found this
ADD [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\hl] ADD LaserSight=dword:00000001 ADD RHWGreaterAtScreen=dword:3e7d7d29 ADD StereoConvergence=dword:40e34ed3
[edit] MOD Specific settings
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\hl2
[edit] NVIDIA Stereo Hook
Hooking and Video Stereo on Nvidia GPU (separate video in left and right eye)
I want to mess with the screen depth..The NVidia Stereo operators manual (77.77) lists Ctrl F10 and Ctrl F9 as the ticket..but they aren't working for me. I think the key bindings are no good as listed in this doc
Currently I see these keys:
I know (through testing) that the the stereo seperation hot keys are CTRL-F3 and CTRL-F4...this shows up in these keys:
StereoSeparationAdjustLess REG-DWORD 0x00000272 (626) StereoSeparationAdjustMore REG-DWORD 0x00000273 (627)
Will first try and figure this out:
CTRL-F2==>0x00000271 (suggest settings) CTRL-F3==>0x00000272 (decrease sep) CTRL-F4==>0x00000273 (increase sep) CTRL-F5==>0x00000274 (decrease convergence) CTRL-F6==>0x00000275 (increase convergence) CTRL-F7==>0x00000276 (write config)
The following keys show up in the registry, but don't have control panel widgets:
CTRL-F9==>0x00000278 RHWAtScreenLess (Not in Control Panel)** CTRL-F10==>0x00000279 RHWAtScreenMore (Not in Control Panel)**
So this should confirm that the RHWAtScreen controls (I think this is RHW greater @ screen in this doc) are CTRL-F9 and CTRL-F10..hmm this is what the manual says they are..
Using the same logic, we see that:
ALT-F2==>0x00000471 (unsuggest settings)
So this implies:
ALT-F9==>0x00000478 RHWLessAtScreenLess (Not in Control Panel)** ALT-F10==>0x00000479 RHWLessAtScreenMore (Not in Control Panel)**
This should confirm that the RHWAtScreen controls (I think this is RHW Lesser @ screen in this doc) are ALT-F9 and ALT-F10
OK..these are working..but I'm not seeing any effect...arg. The values are changing in the registry
Part of thie issue is the polarity of the HeadPlay...its able to flip based on how many times you want to reselect the source. If the polarity shifts then all bets are off
So it may be worth our time to use the GLASTRON with DINN synch to get the settings for HL2 ironed out.
[edit] Driver/Stereo Combinations
[edit] 91.31
The venerable driver/stereo combo for the Quadro 4500 on XP.
Works well, fairly stable
[edit] Dell XPS
These drivers, nor their close cousins (93.71) will install on the XPS..HW not recognized
This page seems to indicate specialized HW
GOT IT
I got Stereo working with the Dell XPS
- Booted to Safe Mode
- Cleaned with Nasty File Remover
- Installed the Nvidia 167.51 Beta Driver -- download
- Rebooted into safe mode
- Installed the Nvidia 162.50 Stereo Driver from Guru3D -- download
- Rebooted into normal mode
Did the registry hack from the Control Panel and Sedona Disable.
Need to put it through the paces with Valve!
[edit] 174.75
Can't find driver
Here's the stero driver:
There is a GPU driver, version 174.93:
I'm going to try the 174.93 GPU driver with the 174.75 Stereo driver on the Dell XPS

OK I installed the 174.93 GPU driver --
- Booted into safe mode
- Used Nasty File Remover to wipe drivers
- Installed and rebooted
Then, while in 'normal mode' I installed the 174.75 Stereo driver -- it didn't work (installer crashed w/ no msg)..so:
- Booted into safe mode
- Ran installer -- worked
- Had to make the following adjustments to the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
Got a blue screen of death the first time.
I think it is somehow still trying to use the LCD because I got a weird message on the Dell LCD about analyglyph stereo
Got a few BSODs...disabled the LCD on the lap top and am only using the external monitor...no luck. Manually set the refresh rate to 60. Going to try a few more then punt to 91.71
I found This Page which details a special driver release for the Dell XPS
[edit] 162.50
Today I managed to get the Nvidia 165.20 driver and stero pair working.
You can download the 162.50 forceware driver from the Guru3D.
Note this lists the driver as a Quadro driver --which is OK for Warhol and Eva -- not sure about GeForceware.
Click here for my specific Nvidia configuration (pdf screen shots). Here for editable ODT.
Hardware Highlights:
- Dell Precision 690 (# Ghz, 2 GB RAM)
- Win XP SP3
- Nvidia Quadro 4500
Note: you will have to enable the classic control panel for the 162.50 Nvidia driver. More information here and 162.50 specific here.
Click here for a dump of my hardware (password required).
[edit] Dell XPS w/ 7950 -- No GO
I tried this setup on a Dell XPS with a GeForce 7950 -- the drivers didn't find any compatible HW.

Another version of the driver -- check this
Note:
This Stereo Beta driver is the latest addition.it's possible you will need to make this registry adjustment to get the drivers to work: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies] "ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
I had to tweak the registry to get the control panel:

Nice discussion on stereo from Nvidia
- Install this
- Uninstall existing NVIDIA driver
- Reboot into safe mode
- Run this tool
- Reboot -- ignore new HW (GPU)
- Install desired driver
